We need to appropriate a word from the German language¹, a language known for its wonderful compound words: to take a well-known one, ‘schadenfreude’ is such a great word that it’s now widely used in English for the ‘pleasure one takes in the misfortune of another’.

We need a word to captures the general sense of ennui, melancholy…
